Minimal Effort

So I’m in Boston, or actually, Tewksbury, Mass this week taking a very boring class. It’s about bytes and bits and network type storage..BORE-ING.

Anyway, I get back to my hotel to take a nappy nap and I turn the television to HBO [I do not have HBO at home, so I find it as a perk when travelling] and there’s Jeremy Irons talking about stuff. So I think…”Planet of the Apes?” [haven’t seen that movie]. Then there’s this blonde kid [is it blond or blonde?] who is talking to Jeremy Irons and I don’t think there are any apes…then a dragon shows up…so I think, Dungeons and Dragons?

I see no Dungeons nor do I know what Dungeons and Dragons are really about. Then the blonde kid rides on the dragon…so perhaps it’s Dragonheart {is that even a movie? I think I made that up} but then the dragon starts talking to the kid but the dragon’s lips aren’t moving! And his eyes turn all dragony.

I am so very confused.

I think it’s actually Eragon…cause the blonde girl just said “Eragon, you shouldn’t have come, leave me here”. I love those cliche lines as much as I hate them. They make for good comedy fodder when the time is right.

Anyway,I can’t believe somebody financed this film and that I don’t have the power to change it but the Biggest Loser [yes, I watch the Biggest Loser…while I work out actually] doesn’t come on until 8pm or 9pm…one of those hours, so I’m stuck with this.

To add more insult to injury, I downloaded a Britney Spears song called “toy soldier”…dude, I could run on that song for miles it’s so damn catchy.

You lost all respect for me, haven’t you? HAVEN’T YOU?!?!?!?!

So I had a gig in Missoula, Montana out of all places. I had never been to Montana nor had I even heard of Missoula but apparently we were 10 minutes away from Idaho or Iowa. It was an “I” state [sorry, i suck at geography, I just knew Canada was north]. The most interesting thing about the trip was the restaurant I went to, something called Lolo Steakhouse or something. I think Lolo means grandfather in tagalog [my parents native language] but that’s about it.

Montana is a big hunting state, so there were dead animal heads all over the restaurant and I was tempted to take pictures but my phone ran out of batteries and I left my Charger in Seattle.

Montana has a bunch of tiny like TINY casinos. For those of you from the San Diego area, these casinos are like the size of a Oscar’s [oops, pat and oscar’s] store. That is tiny but I guess, what else can you do in Montana? Hunt and gamble, i guess.

Now I want some steak now that I mention it.

I was in 3 time zones last week and it screwed up my sleeping schedule. In Seattle, I was waking up at 5 in the morning. In Montana, 7 in the morning, back in New York, I woke up at 9am….but this is bad because I had to be onsite at 9am..oops. But I fixed their problem and was out of there at noon, so the customer bought me lunch at Junior’s Cheesecake Restaurant thingy.

Oh, btw, I got 2 autographed books from Cesar Millan, Dog Whisperer [if you don’t know, he has a show that I got addicted to 2 years ago, called “Dog Whisperer” on National Geographic Channel]. I teased him a bit when he signed my book and my sister was like “holy shit, you just joked with Cesar Millan!!”

My sister loves that guy because she is a dog trainer and groomer, so it was like I was talking to my equivalent of…I guess David Duchovny maybe?

Speaking of which, my sister’s dog is the most behaved dog ever. My favorite game she showed me, is called Sparta. She tells Addy [short for Addison] to go to her Kennel…then my sister’s boyfriend says “FIGHT!!” and Addy runs out of the kennel and growls and pillow fights with my sister until my sister says ‘ok, i’m done’….and she runs back into the kennel.

It was awesome and pretty damned funny. Addy NEVER growls except for Sparta.

And I went to Pike Place! I had the biggest lobster ever. It was as big as my head and called “Australian Rock Lobster Tail”. It cost me 90 bucks. I could not finish it.

Ok, that’s it for now. I just bought Project Runway 4, and they’re extended episodes, so I must be off and watch my dvds for 18 bazillion hours.

the boyfriend bought the box set of xfiles….that’s nine freaking seasons in one box. He also bought the first 3 seasons of Rescue Me and a dvd of Pixar shorts.

And people wonder why we’re dating. Duh! DVDS!! well other stuff too but…DVDS!!!

Finally, a movie I looking forward to with some obsession. This is the geekiest I pretty much get about a franchise.

Yes, folks, X-files movie [sequel] is being shot in December and released next year in the summer. X-Files is one of my all-time favorite shows next to Sex and the City and Six Feet Under.

I wonder what happened to Gillian Anderson anyway? I think she moved to Europe?

I’m flying to Seattle tomorrow to see the Dog Whisperer with my sister! YAY!! I love that guy.

Luckily, I am in Boston and came into Boston with the boyfriend this weekend for a wedding reception. I say luckily for the following reasons:

a) Boston won World Series and I was in town to witness the hoopla
b) it is FALL and autumn leaves, albeit not the most beautiful this year, are still pretty damned gorgeous
c) it was nice to drive around for a bit and do shopping [even if it was at the Burlington Mall] with the boyfriend. It was a nice getaway from the expensive [yet yummy] restaurants, the taxicabs [who had been annoying me as of late] and the smelly subways.

Don’t get me wrong, my life is esconced [did i use that right?] in New York but I like to feel surburban once in a while.

One of the things I like about being on the road, for a class, interestingly enough, is that I feel like I have a ‘normal’ schedule. The class is structured..it’s 9-5, I go home, eat dinner, watch television, go to the gym, monkey around on the internet, go to bed. Furthermore, when this schedule gets boring, it’s back to New York—-which barely has a schedule for me.

So I’m watching television on my regular schedule [did I mention I don’t have cable? Nope, no cable in NYC. Never home for it] and I started watching this “tell me you love me” show on the road. Dude, i don’t get it. It seems like free intercourse on the telly but the drama is a little lacking and I don’t feel any sympathy for the characters. There’s this couple that has passionless lovemaking and another couple trying to get pregnant and another one who are trying to get it up but the guy keeps yanking off before bed and doesn’t have the energy to do his wife. Yeah…and……i’m bored. I hear about these type of things from my friends. Hmmm. Perhaps they need an injection of Heather Locklear in that show. SHe seems to be the show saver.

other than that, i’m freaking freezing. i went back to my massachusetts storage to grab my coats and it was smelly, like of old coats. TIme for the dry cleaners.

So I just joined facebook. Like, dude, how many social networking sites do I need to be on? But the reason I do it is because, having moved so much, I have different friends on different sites and I like knowing what’s going on.

Although majority of the time, I just look at updates of profiles and don’t actually say anything. I’m not sure if that’s because of laziness or the superfluous use of exclamation marks that makes me feel queasy. It’s like my secret guilty pleasure of going on P. hilton’s [perez, not the hotel chick] for hollywood gossip.

Why do I read hollywood gossip? I have NO idea. I guess I find it…bizarre? [for lack of a better term] that it’s like high school on a grander scale. It’s OBVIOUS that they like being in these magazines and having their every move watched. If they really didn’t, they would know what hot spots to avoid. If you see the old school guys pictures, it’s usually on a set….free publicity for their movie. [Do you ever see George Clooney on “just like us” doing laundry? No…but you’ll find him sitting on the rocks in prep for his new movie….]

Anyway, that was so much a tangent. And the perez site has cool pictures. More raunchy then what’s in US Weekly. My old roommate and I tried to do fantasy US Weekly [who would be on the cover, versus who would be in best dressed versus..etc for points] but it was getting WAY too easy. Lindsay, Britney, the usuals.

Did you know that there is a dogster site? Like, myspace for dogs. It’s unreal yet, I can’t help looking at it

because i really love dogs. especially welsh corgis. I am SO getting a dog when I’m home more often and making more bucks.

So, it turns out, I DIDN’T spend 4th of July alone! Yippy-ki-yay muthafucka. =)

I ended spending it a guy who I’ve been spending a lot of time with. Luckily, he got out of work around 8ish [yep, he was working at a TV station on 4th of July…it must be done] and we decided to go to Coney Island!

After some rum drinks, a ride on the Cyclone and a yucky trip to a public bathroom, we ended up sitting on a bench by the beach, talking for a few hours.

I feel like I’m in high school again, like a little giddy high school girl….except my high school experience is much nicer NOW. heh.

I DID do my detective marathon, during the daytime, so I got everything accomplished.

We’re going to Mass this weekend for a big BBQ and then we’re going to Maine.

Isn’t it nice when you’re all giddy about a new person? [i’m so lame]

heh.

So tomorrow is 4th of July.

I was thinking of coming up to Boston for the holiday but decided against it. I have no car and not a ton of money. Furthermore, the person i would probably be spending with — he’s rather angry at me right now and am probably the last person he would want to see anyway. Oh well.

I guess a part of me thinks —i should’ve started our fight AFTER 4th of July but you know what, i better start getting used to holidays by myself anyway. I usually put things off [i.e. having a conversation about what is going on with us, i guess] until after a holiday but its like this : ok after thanksgiving. ok after christmas, ok after new year’s….now i’m up to 4th of july and then after that is my birthday and then after that…i guess i could’ve done august? but sheesh!!].

Anyway, so I’m going to have a “detective marathon”. This means I will be watching Season 5 of Monk all day tomorrow. Hooray!

I hate spending holidays by myself, but it must be done.

I don’t know what brought about this, but I was thinking today. My favorite Frank Oz movie has to be “Return to Oz”. It’s so underrated and so well done. I actually prefer it over “Wizard of Oz”. I wonder what happened to the little girl who played Dorothy? I guess time to IMDB.

Also, I’m watching TV Land, and there’s Kenny [from the Cosby Show]! I had NO CLUE that Kenny was the same dude on The West Wing who played Charlie. Damn he was good in that! And now he’s in a USA comedy called Psych. I ran into that show while watching one of my favorite shows, Monk [I LOVE TONY Shaloub]. I was also watching Men In Black II last night, and didn’t realize Tony Shaloub was an alien with buckteeth in that movie [go figure].

Lastly, I watched “Sicko”, the new Michael Moore movie the other night. One of the advantages of living in New York — seeing movies before the rest of the world. I had to take a train to Springfield, MA [the hotel room I am in now], so I watched the earliest movie I have ever seen in a theater — a 10am showing. But it was also only 6 bucks. And interestingly enough, my friend Angela and I were the youngest people in that theater.

I have to say, it is my favorite Michael Moore movie to date. I don’t find it as politically polarized as his other flicks but it did make me want to move to another country. But further more, it kind of made me felt helpless….like, what the hell can I do??

Of course I wept. Just knowing that Insurance Companies denied people known TREATMENT to save their companies millions of dollars…what the hell has the world come to?

What can I do? What can we all do??

EDIT: So I lied, Frank Oz didn’t do Return to Oz. I wonder why I thought that! Crazy. And the little girl who played Dorothy? None other than Fairuza Balk! Like Woah!
